Bournville Village Trust Open View Event

We had a stall at BVT's 'Open View' event held at Rowheath Pavilion which provided Bournville residents a free activity day. During the day we provided a have a go at fishing event at Rowheath Pool.

Community Games Day

During the summer holidays we joined Bournville Village Trust to hold a Community Games Day for families in the local area. We had over 40 people attend and it wasn't all fishing (even though that was the most popular) we had 5-a-side football, rounder’s, tag-rugby and face-painting.

Eastfield Youth Centre

Funding from Wolverhampton Homes enabled us to provide an Angling OCN programme for young people attending the Eastfield Youth Centre.

On at least two occasions the weather was not ideal but the young people did not mind and carried on fishing, those who attended enjoyed the course and achieved an OCN qualification in Pole Angling Level 3.

The Youth Worker told us that this was one of the best activities the centre has been involved in, so we hope to receive more funding to develop this provision for those attending.

Junior Fly Fishing Club

In July we took a group of nine young people to take part in Rutland Fly Fishing Day. During the day they learnt about fly tackle, how to tie flies and improve their casting skills. One of the lads and two of the girls, who had not been fly fishing before caught trout over 5lbs. We are grateful to the members of the Rutland Fly Fishers Association who gave their expertise on the day.

Lads and Dads

Fishing should be a sport by enjoyed by the whole family and it was proved to be true with the ‘Lads & Dads’ fishing days during the summer but despite the event's name Mums and Grandparents joined in too. As a result of the popularity a Junior Angling Club has been set up at Alverchurch, where parents are encouraged to attend.

Birmingham’s Disability Sports Festival

During Birmingham’s Disability Sports Festival we held free ‘Have a Go at Fishing Days.’ We had some young people from Children’s Action Team Support (C.A.T.S), Balsall Heath, and it was great to see the excitement as they caught their first ever fish.

After School Canal Fishing Sessions

For the second year running we supplied angling tuition sessions for students from Watling Street Junior School in Brownhills. All students received a certificate and some copies of ‘Fishing With Emma’ supplied by Merlin Unwin books and copies of ‘Fishing Forever.’ Medals were given to most fish and biggest fish caught. Feedback was excellent and we hope to repeat the sessions again during Spring 2014.
