Fly Fishing, Fun for Everyone!

Once again we have provided angling sessions for girls aged 11 years + for ‘This Girl Can’ campaign developed by Sport England, which is a celebration of the active women everywhere who are doing their thing no matter how they do it, how they look or even how sweaty they get.

This national campaign developed by Sport England seeks to inspire more women and girls to become active, and conquer fear of judgement as the primary barrier.

With year on year funding we have provided some Fly fishing for girls living in Birmingham who have never tried or heard of Fly fishing before.  During each of the days the girls taking part had the opportunity to learn how to tie their own flies, how to cast a fly line and catch, gut and fillet a Trout, with many nice Trout taken home to eat for dinner.

The girls came from Secondary schools, Young Carers projects and also from Uniform groups such as the Girls Brigade.

Feedback from all of the participants tell us how very much the girls have really enjoyed taking part and are eager to repeat the experience.  We are now working with the local Girls Brigade in setting up Fly Fishing Club in the Club.

We are very grateful to the Lenches Lakes, Bransford Game Fisheries and to the Worcester Fly Dressers who have continued to support us in this venture.
