Totally Hooked on Fishing

Totally Hooked on FishingDemand for Angling Unlimited services has grown from all sections of the community and not just for young people. Angling Unlimited launched a scheme in 2007, which we called ‘Totally Hooked’, specifically aimed at the elderly and adults at risk of social exclusion due to strokes, brain injuries, disabilities, bereavement, depression, ill health and rehabilitation.

Referrals are received from agencies such as Moseley Hospital, Brain injuries Unit, Stroke Association, Community Groups, G.P’s and Primary Care Trusts.

Totally Hooked has already made, a huge difference to the elderly and adults who have taken part, helping them to once again become part of community life. Reconnecting with others through positive recereation tackles the loneliness and isolation experienced by many elderly people as well as those who have suffered strokes, bereavement, etc.

Angling session/trips to the countryside, includes transport, equipment, bait, licenses and tuition by qualified angling coaches. Our ‘Totally Hooked’ scheme enables the elderly and adults to regain self-confidence; aiding physical and mental recovery by supporting their cognitive ability and by providing stimulus, which assists in them to stay active and gain a sense of ‘well being’.

Angling Unlimited has a team of fully qualified coaches who are trained in a variety of ways, ranging from First Aid to Bereavement Counselling. Angling Unlimited is a member of the Birmingham Care Development Agency, which assists in training and development of our coaches.
